About Northern NSW Local Health District
NNSWLHD provides a diverse range of public healthcare to over 300,000 residents across the district through 12 hospitals and multi-purpose services, 21 community health centres and other facilities. The District covers a large area in the northeast corner of NSW, extending from Tweed Heads in the north, to Tabulam and Urbenville in the west, and to Nymboida and Grafton in the south, covering an area of 20,732 square kilometres.
People of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage make up 5.2 per cent of the population in Northern NSW compared to 3.4 per cent for all NSW.
The District delivers a broad range of health services in state-of-the-art facilities, with access to general and specialist services. Staff are connected to best-practice medical care throughout Australia thanks to a growing network of training opportunities and relationships with local and metropolitan tertiary education providers.
Richmond Valley
The Richmond Valley covers Ballina, Lismore and Casino as well as various multi-purpose locations. The Richmond Valley services 7 of the 12 hospitals located in the NNSWLHD.
Lismore
Lismore is located in between the Gondwana rainforest and the Pacific Ocean and is the cultural and economic capital of the Northern Rivers region. The sub-tropical climate, diversity of flora and fauna, the breathtaking natural attractions and proximity to the QLD border or other local communities make Lismore and its villages an ideal place to call home. Lismore is 734km north of Sydney and 200km south of Brisbane.
The hospital
Lismore Base Hospital is a regional referral, Level 5 base hospital providing a wide range of health services to residents in Northern NSW.
These services include a state-of-the-art Operating Theatre Suite, Intensive Care/Cardiac Care Unit, General Medical and Surgical Wards, Women’s Care Unit, Paediatric Unit, Renal Unit, Emergency Department, Medical Imaging department and Cardiac Catheter Laboratory.
Mental Health Inpatient Units, the North Coast Cancer Institute, Pathology, Pain Management Clinic, and Specialist Outpatient Clinics are also located on the Lismore Base Hospital campus.
