Global Medics is partnering with a hospital in South Sydney to recruit a Staff Specialist - Psychiatry in the adult general acute unit. The role is based 40 minutes south of Sydney, with great connections to the CBD and stunning beaches such as Bondi and Coogee.

Key responsibilities for the role:

  • Provide an accountable and high standard of specialist patient care including consultation services.
  • Liaise and interact effectively with all staff.
  • Ensure detailed treatment plans are in place to support timely management of patients. Ensure a high standard of clinical record documentation including completion of all clinical records (including medication charts) to reflect clinical decisions and optimise data collection.
  • Participate actively in research activities in Department.
  • Provide clinical leadership for medical staff working in the Mental Health service.
  • Promote a sense of purpose and build a shared sense of direction within the unit.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Coming from the UK -  Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), awarded under any RCPsych curriculum from August 2007 to date following satisfactory completion of a General Medical Council or Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board approved specialty training program in psychiatry in the United Kingdom.
  • Other Countries - Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent
  • Demonstrated clinical skills and experience working with mental health problems in Adult Mental Health
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to work effectively as part of multi-disciplinary team

Psychiatry:

  • United Kingdom: Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), awarded under any RCPsych curriculum from August 2007 to date following satisfactory completion of a General Medical Council or Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board approved specialty training program in psychiatry in the United Kingdom.

Psychiatrists educated from other countries will still need to go through The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP)

What is the process to apply?

  • Apply to the AMC for primary source verification (PSV) of your primary and specialist medical qualifications. The AMC use the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) verification services.
  • Apply to the ECFMG to establish an EPIC/MyIntealth account for verification of your qualifications.
  • Apply to the Medical Board for specialist registration.
  • Submit a supervised practice plan including nominating a supervisor and details of an appropriate specialist position, that the Board will need to approve. This can be done when you apply for registration or after registration has been granted.
  • If you want fellowship, contact the relevant specialist medical college to find out what the requirements are while on the Expedited Specialist pathway.
