Global Medics is partnering with a hospital in Illawarra to recruit a Staff Specialist Psychiatrist - Adult Inpatient (Including PECC)

The role is based in the Illawarra Shoalhaven region, a stunning area stretching from the sea cliffs of the Illawarra Escarpment to the white sands of Jarvis Bay. Just south of Sydney, enjoy beautiful beaches, lush national parks, and welcoming communities.

The key responsibilities for the role:

  • Provide an accountable and high standard service consistent with the defined scope of clinical practice as required by other senior medical staff and the facility.
  • Be dedicated to a teamwork philosophy and be able to demonstrate ability to work as a team member within the Department and the broader multidisciplinary team.
  • Ensure detailed patient treatment plans are in place to support the timely management of patients and effective clinical handover processes in accordance with facility guidelines.
  • Ensure a high standard of clinical record documentation is maintained, including the completion of all clinical records (including medication charts and other orders) to reflect clinical decisions and optimise data collection.

  Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Coming from the UK - Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), awarded under any RCPsych curriculum from August 2007 to date following satisfactory completion of a General Medical Council or Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board approved specialty training program in psychiatry in the United Kingdom.
  • Other Countries - Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent
  • Demonstrated clinical skills and experience working with mental health problems in Adult Mental Health
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to work effectively as part of multi-disciplinary team

Psychiatry:

  • United Kingdom: Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), awarded under any RCPsych curriculum from August 2007 to date following satisfactory completion of a General Medical Council or Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board approved specialty training program in psychiatry in the United Kingdom.

Psychiatrists educated from other countries will still need to go through The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP)

What is the process to apply?

  • Apply to the AMC for primary source verification (PSV) of your primary and specialist medical qualifications. The AMC use the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) verification services.
  • Apply to the ECFMG to establish an EPIC/MyIntealth account for verification of your qualifications.
  • Apply to the Medical Board for specialist registration.
  • Submit a supervised practice plan including nominating a supervisor and details of an appropriate specialist position, that the Board will need to approve. This can be done when you apply for registration or after registration has been granted.
  • If you want fellowship, contact the relevant specialist medical college to find out what the requirements are while on the Expedited Specialist pathway.
