Global Medics is partnering with Western Sydney Local Health District to recruit a Director for their Psychiatric Acute Mental Health unit. The purpose of the role is to ensure the delivery and ongoing development of a clinical environment/care that provides high quality and patient centered care through the provision of clinical excellence and best practice across the service with support from the Heads of Department, across the Western Sydney Local Health District's Mental Health Service. The role is based 40 minutes west of the Sydney CBD, with great transport links to everything Sydney has to offer, from wonderful restaurants, stunning beaches, and scenic hiking spots!
Key responsibilities of the role:
- Provide high quality care for patients and their families/significant others.
- Ensure adequate communication occurs between clinicians within the organisation.
- Ensure detailed patient care treatment plans are in place to support the timely management of patients.
- Fulfil responsibilities as mentors for medical students and resident medical staff assigned to the department as required. This includes participation in staff appraisal at regular intervals particularly in relation to registrars & resident medical staff.
- Supervise the junior medical staff and provide regular teaching and education in accordance with Health Education and Training Institute guidelines.

Essential Selection Criteria:
- Coming from the UK - Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), awarded under any RCPsych curriculum from August 2007 to date following satisfactory completion of a General Medical Council or Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board approved specialty training program in psychiatry in the United Kingdom.
- Other Countries - Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent
- Demonstrated clinical skills and experience working with mental health problems in Adult Mental Health
- Demonstrated experience and ability to work effectively as part of multi-disciplinary team

Psychiatry:
- United Kingdom: Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), awarded under any RCPsych curriculum from August 2007 to date following satisfactory completion of a General Medical Council or Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board approved specialty training program in psychiatry in the United Kingdom.
Psychiatrists educated from other countries will still need to go through The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP)
What is the process to apply?
- Apply to the AMC for primary source verification (PSV) of your primary and specialist medical qualifications. The AMC use the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) verification services.
- Apply to the ECFMG to establish an EPIC/MyIntealth account for verification of your qualifications.
- Check that your qualification is on the Board's Expedited Specialist pathway: accepted qualifications list.
- Apply to the Medical Board for specialist registration.
- Submit a supervised practice plan including nominating a supervisor and details of an appropriate specialist position, that the Board will need to approve. This can be done when you apply for registration or after registration has been granted.
