The Position:

Global Medics is presently arranging interviews for Emergency Medicine Medical Officer's at a public hospital in Melbourne. The role of the Emergency Medicine Medical Officer is to assist in the clinical management of patients under the supervision and direction of Emergency Registrars and Consultants.

You will be responsible for:

  • Clinical care of patients within the ED and Short Stay Unit
  • Leadership, including incorporation of evidence and best practice into ED work practices.
  • Supervision of junior staff including HMOs and interns.
  • Teaching of medical students, junior medical staff and nurses.
  • Commitment to delivery of high-quality clinical care and development of ED quality improvement initiatives

The Hospital

This role will be spread across 2 hospitals. The first location is an acute and sub-acute teaching hospital with around 600 beds. This location has one of the busiest emergency departments in Victoria. The second location is an acute teaching hospital with around 290 beds. This location conducts many research projects from medical to speciality areas. Both provide a wide range of services, including a new intensive care unit, cardiac care services, women's and children's services, surgical and more. It is a culturally diverse area and a growing population, so you will see a wide range of patients and up to 110,000 per year.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Current General Registration with AHPRA OR eligibility for AHPRA registration via the Competent Authority Pathway
  • Completion of minimum 2 years employment as intern / HMO (or equivalent) i.e. at least PGY3
  • Completion of minimum 3 months employment in an Emergency Department
  • Clinical competence as required for level of position
