Adelaide is considered one of the world's most liveable cities (in the top 10 on Condé Nast Traveler's 'Most Friendly Cities in the World'). Adelaide offers an affordable life style, reduced traffic congestion, open spaces and with a population of 1 million it feels more like a large town over a busy, compacted and populated city. This relaxed life style gives inhabitants the space to enjoy the Mediterranean climate and the work life balance that Northern Adelaide Local Health network offers will give you the opportunity to encompass this way of living too.

The Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) includes the Lyell McEwin Hospital (LMH), Modbury Hospital (MH) and other Mental Health and Sub-Acute services. Both LMH and MH offer highly regarded training positions for junior doctors with protected teaching time while still maintaining ability to support a population of more than 400,000 people living primarily in Adelaide's north and north eastern suburbs. The huge variety of patients seen in both the hospital's emergency departments provides for an excellent clinical and training experience. An excellent part of working within LMH is the ability to work in its Paediatric Emergency area. The LMH sees 74,000 presentations per year of which 15,000 are paediatric presentations. LMH ED is also going through a $58 million expansion due to be complete in 2022, including state of the art resuscitation rooms and a new paediatric emergency area. While Modbury is a smaller Emergency Department they are too linked to a hospital that offers world class Rehabilitation, Palliative Care and Aged Care Medicine. Modbury Hospital is also going through a re-development which includes a recently completed Emergency Extended Care Unit, and the future will include additional beds in Emergency, expansion of the surgical floor and establishment of an High Dependency Unit set to cost $96 million dollars.

We offer our Emergency Medical Practitioners ability to do rotations between both hospitals to ensure that teaching is at its highest level in all fields of emergency medicine. As a network, the Emergency Departments can deliver both specialist training and certificate/diploma training programs set by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine. We are flexible with these rotations to ensure that our hospitals can provide the best experience to our staff. Our Workplace Flexibility is highly sought after as we work with our doctors to attempt to group shifts together so days off can be spent travelling and exploring the regions that are so close to our doorstep. Being less than 1 hour from the Barossa Valley means you can finish your shift at 6pm and still be at a beautiful winery with a great view for dinner.

NALHN offers exceptional Professional Development opportunities and provides reimbursement for most training needs. This will give you the opportunity to enhance your already found skills and develop them further either here in South Australia or interstate funded by the hospital. NALHN is committed to the achievement of best practice in the design and delivery of services to patients; you will contribute to the pursuit of quality improvement and innovation in every aspect of the Division's operation. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to participate in educational programs, audits and research.
