Consultant Psychiatrist - Central Regional Forensic Service

  • Both inpatient and outpatient options
  • Wellington Region, New Zealand

I am seeking experienced Consultant Psychiatrists specialising in forensic psychiatry for either full or part-time positions in the Central regional Forensic Service, across the Wellington Region. Ideally, we are looking for applicants who want to come permanently, however, if you are wanting to come for a shorter term to experience working and living in New Zealand, I would love to hear from you also.

About the job:

The Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) spans three regions - Wairarapa, Hutt Valley, Capital and Coast and includes local, regional, and national services. The teams supply a range of services for adults and youth, including adult inpatient, prison and community services, a national Youth Forensic service and the national Fixated Threat Assessment Centre.

The service is seeking clinicians with strong clinical competencies, with excellent communication and decision-making skills. These teams provide mental health care to the local and regional prisons, youth offending units, and justice facilities, as well as deliver court liaison services to adult and youth courts. Community teams provide care for people who require supervision and support due to their status as Special Patients, or those who have ongoing need for forensic community support.

Location:

Situated at the southern end of the North Island, the Wellington region boasts stunning natural landscapes, a magnificent harbour, and a vibrant arts and cultural community. Renowned for its creativity, Wellington is home to iconic New Zealand attractions, like Te Papa (National Museum), the spectacular Cable Car, and the Beehive (Parliament Buildings). Whether you want to wander down hidden laneways or explore the Remutaka Cycle Trail, there's plenty to get you outdoors around the Wellington region.

Essential requirements:

  • You must have or be eligible for specialist registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand in a vocational and/or locum tenens Psychiatry scope of practice, with no restrictions to your APC.
  • Experience in Forensic Psychiatry.
  • Must be legally able to work in New Zealand

Registering with Global Medics as a Psychiatrist will give you access to the widest range of opportunities across Australia and New Zealand.
