I am seeking experienced Consultant Psychiatrists specialising in acute psychiatry for either full or part-time positions in the Intensive Recovery Service, across the Wellington Region. Ideally, I am looking for applicants who want to come permanently, however, if you are wanting to come for a shorter term to experience working and living in New Zealand, please also reach out.
About the job:
The Mental Health, Addiction, and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) spans three regions - Wairarapa, Hutt Valley, Capital and Coast and includes local, regional, and national services. The Intensive Recovery Service (IRS) responds to and supports people with severe mental illness, who may require acute responses and care. Depending on the needs of the patient, these services may be provided in either the community or within a hospital setting.
The service is seeking clinicians with strong clinical competencies, with excellent communication and decision-making skills. You would be responsible for ensuring the implementation of all necessary clinical steps, to support patients in achieving optimal health and well-being, through suitable assessment, intervention, and education.

Situated at the southern end of the North Island, the Wellington region boasts stunning natural landscapes, a magnificent harbour, and a vibrant arts and cultural community. Renowned for its creativity, Wellington is home to iconic New Zealand attractions, like Te Papa (National Museum), the spectacular Cable Car, and the Beehive (Parliament Buildings). Essential requirements:
- You must have or be eligible for specialist registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand in a vocational and/or locum tenens Psychiatry scope of practice.
- Experience in either acute or consult liaison work is desired, however not mandatory.
- Must be legally able to work in New Zealand
